    Description

    Important note:
Singer changed the design of this bobbin case (shuttle) several times. Some of them are interchangeable but some are not, and it’s easy to buy a bobbin case that will not work in your machine. We don’t want you to be frustrated by parts that won’t work, so let’s take a moment to discuss what fits what. This is easier to explain with pictures, so please take a look at photos numbers two through five.
Nothing shown in photos two through five is included in this listing.
Photo two shows a shuttle installed in its carriage in a Singer Model 27. Note that the carriage has a “hook” on the end closest to the camera (the hook is shown in close-up in photo three). That hook fits into a notch cut into the pointed end of the shuttle and holds the shuttle in place in its carriage. All of the oldest Singer shuttle-style machines used this design
    :
    Models VS1, VS2, VS3, 27, and 28.
In 1912, Singer made lots of changes to Model 27 and 28 machines (and then re-named them 127 and 128). Two of the changes were in the shuttle carriage (photo four shows the shuttle and carriage in a Singer 128). Notice that the hook has been removed from the carriage, and the notch was removed from the shuttle (photo five).
    Here’s the important part:
the early bobbin case, the one with the notch near its point, will work in ANY of the Singer shuttle-style machines. But the one without the notch will only work in a Singer Model 127 or 128.
So, the shuttle we’re selling in this listing, stamped with Singer part number 54504, will only work in a Singer 127 or 128.
Bullet bobbin cases are dirt magnets and my husband disassembles them and removes the tons of gunk and grime and bits of broken thread that always lurk inside, especially under the tension spring. Left in place the gunk will make it almost impossible for the shuttle to make a good stitch.
Photos six through nine show it cleaned up and back together, and it sewed a nice stitch for me during my “test drive” (photo ten). It comes complete with the correct “long bobbin” shown in photo eleven, and we hope it helps you to make lots of wonderful things.
