Description
My husband and I have owned and restored over 1000 antique and vintage Singer sewing machines, and along the way we have accumulated a stock of old Singer parts. The parts aren’t doing anyone any good sitting in our workshop, so we have decided to send them on to where they’re needed. This is a genuine Singer part. It came to us on an early 1900s Singer 27 but it will work perfectly on other machines in the same “family,” regardless of their year of manufacture. Here’s a short history of the wonderful family of sewing machines that Singer manufactured from the 1880s until the 1960s.
Models VS1, VS2 and VS3 came first, but Model 27, introduced in 1889, was the big seller. Singer made a few improvements to Model 27 in 1913 – adding an “ejector button” to the shuttle carriage and changing the design and mounting position of the bobbin winder, among other things – and changed the model number to 127. Model 28 is a three-quarter-size Model 27 intended to be sold as a portable, and Model 128 is – you guessed it! – a Singer 28 with an ejector button and a better bobbin winder.
Some parts, like this throat plate, fit all four of the newer models
:
27, 28, 127 and 128. It has scratches and pits but still has a nice shine. It has been cleaned and is ready to install on your machine. The small attachment screw shown in photo four is included.
