Description
This is a listing for a one of a kind historical 1934 - J. E. Caldwell & Co Philadelphia - Mantoloking Yacht Club Silver Sailing Trophy Cup. This cup was made and is marked on the bottom by J. E. Caldwell & Co Philadelphia. The cup was presented to the 1934 Champion for Class A-15 Footer - Robert Hart. The Mantoloking Yacht club has been in continuous operation since 1907 as a private sailing club. It is located on Barnegat Bay in Mantoloking, New Jersey. This cup stands 12 inches tall and the top opening is 6¼ inches in diameter. The cup is engraved:
Mantoloking Yacht Club - Class A-15 Footer Championship - 1934 Robert Hart
This Engraved trophy cup is still in excellent overall condition, showing only some minor signs of age and storage wear. These include some minor tarnish spots, a small 1/4 inch long dent on the back right of the cup a few other slight scratches and a scratch under the name "Hart" - The cup is marked on the bottom with a tiny oval disc that says "J. E. Caldwell & Co Philadelphia" Additionally etched into the bottom is "p 1/2 and E24 12" - I unfortunately have not been able to find out what these marking mean, but I would assume the must say something about the silver content or quality of this cup.
J. E. Caldwell & Co is a very famous and sought after sliver company; that combined with the historical value of this trophy from a 100+ year old still operational Yacht club really makes this a very extraordinary piece. Please see our pictures for complete details. Shipping for this cup will be FREE in the United States and will be for international locations.
